We will learn how to write a strong informational body paragraph that includes a topic sentence, evidence from the text, added details, a concluding sentence, and have another look to revise and edit. (TEACH strategy) We will review how to cite evidence from a passage and elaborate on that evidence to include our own thoughts and ideas. We will also learn how to write a strong conclusion to end our essay that reminds the reader of our topic and leaves them with a final thought.

- In reading we will be reading nonfiction texts and learning about text structure. We will then work on an integrated reading project. Students will read three paragraphs about rocks and minerals in the three different text structures (cause and effect, compare and contrast, and sequence) They will then write their own paragraph about the topic in the text structure. They will publish their paragraphs by typing or writing on publishing paper. They will put their three published paragraphs on a poster and create 6 text features to correspond with them, (picture, caption, glossary, map, heading, timeline, diagram, table, text box, etc.) This will be taken as a grade.

Week of October 2-6
- In writing we are wrapping up our text based narrative story. The students will finish publishing their story by typing on Microsoft Teams. On Tuesday 10/3-Thursday 10/5 we will do our second narrative writing on demand which will be taken as a major grade. Students will have Friday as an extra day for completion as needed. For This piece they will be given a story to read and then asked to write a narrative story based on what they read. They should have three paragraphs with a beginning, middle, and end. They should include characters, setting, dialogue, thoughts, feelings, and actions. They should hook their reader and wrap up their story in a satisfying way. We will then begin our expository opinion essay unit.

- In reading we will be reading fictional stories. We will be learning how to find the theme in a story by using our inferencing skills. - In writing we are continuing our text based narrative story. This week we will be wrapping up the story with a strong ending. We will then use checklists, peer conferencing, and teacher feedback to revise and edit the story. The students will then publish their story by typing on Microsoft Teams. Students will be given a narrative writing prompt and asked to write a new story in a shorter amount of time. On Thursday we will break down the prompt, plan, and begin drafting. On Friday we will finish our draft, revise, and edit. This will be taken as a Major Assessment Grade as it will show what students have learned about writing a narrative story.
